Prevention is practiced every day
The Qualtia plant in Querétaro received the IMSS “Safe and Healthy Work Environments” certification after nearly a year of evaluations, improvements, and collaborative efforts.
A safe work environment does not depend on a single measure. It requires identifying risks, correcting conditions, training teams, and making prevention a part of daily activities.
With this approach, the Qualtia plant in Querétaro earned the Safe and Healthy Work Environments (ELSSA) certification, awarded by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).
The recognition is the result of a process lasting nearly a year, during which the company conducted self-assessments of its facilities and operational processes, identified areas for improvement, and developed action plans aimed at preventing injuries, addressing psychosocial risks, and promoting the well-being of its energizers.
Assess to Improve
The actions implemented were subsequently reviewed and validated by IMSS specialists as part of the procedure for obtaining the certification.
ELSSA is a voluntary, non-punitive program through which the IMSS provides workplaces with tools, guidance, and materials to strengthen occupational safety and health.
Its methodology includes checklists that assess five priority areas: prevention of hand and ankle injuries; prevention of musculoskeletal disorders in the back; health surveillance; addressing psychosocial risk factors; and promotion of health and well-being.
Based on these assessments, each workplace can identify risks requiring immediate attention and define measures tailored to its facilities and activities. The program addresses aspects such as the safe use of machinery and tools, workplace conditions, training, personal protective equipment, and the existence of a supportive organizational environment.
For Qualtia, the process involved reviewing existing practices and developing new initiatives. It also required the participation of different departments and change agents, since prevention is only effective when it is integrated into everyday work practices.
An Ongoing Commitment
The certification recognizes the progress made by the Querétaro plant, but it does not mark the end of the process. It is valid for one year, so maintaining it requires continuing the measures that have been implemented, evaluating their results, and addressing new risks.
The significance of this effort is reflected in the program’s national results. The IMSS reported that 2,522 workplaces participating in ELSSA collectively recorded more than 10,000 fewer workplace accidents in 2025 compared to the previous year.
Beyond the recognition, the main outcome for Qualtia lies in strengthening a culture in which every individual can identify risks, take preventive action, and contribute to the well-being of their coworkers.
Workplace safety is not achieved through a single isolated action, nor is it the sole responsibility of any one department. It is built through shared decisions and habits practiced every day. The ELSSA certification confirms the progress made by the Querétaro plant on this path and underscores its commitment to continued improvement.
