Monterrey, N.L., November 10, 2024. — Xignux, a Mexican leader in the energy and food sectors, through its Fundación Xignux and in collaboration with universities in Nuevo León, held the third “Gamer for a Cause” Tournament, an initiative aimed at supporting social organizations through the talents of young video gamers.
During the kick-off of the tournament’s elimination stage, Marcela Garza Herrera, President of Fundación Xignux and promoter of the project, stated: “Gamer for a Cause is not just a tournament; it is a space for healthy competition that supports organizations doing incredible work for our society.”
This year’s edition featured over 100 gamers competing in Mario Kart, including students from the gamer communities at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Universidad de Monterrey, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Universidad Regiomontana, and Tec Milenio, as well as Xignux employees known as “Energizers.”
The elimination stage of the tournament took place virtually from October 25 to October 27. The 12 finalists competed in an in-person final on November 10 at the ACE League Studio.
Each finalist represented a cause from a civil society organization dedicated to social benefit projects in areas such as nutrition, education, health, and support for vulnerable groups.
Winners of the Third Gamer for a Cause Tournament:
Student Category:
1st Place: Adrián Mauricio Soto Sánchez, student at UANL, who delivered a donation of 100,000 pesos to Instituto Nuevo Amanecer.
2nd Place: Marco Antonio Calacuayo Tamayo, student at UANL, who delivered a donation of 40,000 pesos to Misión del Nayar.
Energizers Category:
1st Place: Dante Alejandro Reyna Cortez, Energizer from Viakable, who delivered a donation of 100,000 pesos to Comenzar de Nuevo.
2nd Place: Guillermo Andrés Cortés Padrón, Energizer from Viakable, who delivered a donation of 40,000 pesos to the Mexican Diabetes Association of Nuevo León.
