Monterrey, Mexico, November 5, 2023 – The second edition of the Xignux “Gamer for a Cause” tournament brought together top gaming talent from university students and Xignux employees to represent various social organizations and compete for projects aimed at positively impacting nutrition.
The competition invited university students from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, U-ERRE, Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM), and Tec Milenio, as well as Xignux employees.
Through multiple sessions, players tested their skills in virtual eliminations held from October 24 to 26, competing to score the highest points. From this stage, finalists emerged to represent the civil organizations supporting vulnerable groups.
The 14 finalists represented civil society organizations working on nutrition projects selected through a Fundación Xignux-led call for applications. Participating institutions included: Mexican Diabetes Association in Nuevo León, Bomberos de Nuevo León, Casa Paterna La Gran Familia, Casa de Reposo Rodrigo Gómez G., Zero Extreme Poverty in Mexico, Comedor Santa María, Mexican Red Cross in Nuevo León, Cruz Rosa, Instituto Nuevo Amanecer, Misión del Nayar, Juan XXIII al Servicio de los Pobres, Patronato Hospital Materno Infantil, Vida y Familia Monterrey (VIFAC), and Zihuame Mochilla.
In the student category, first place went to Rafael Martínez Silva, a university student at Tecnológico de Monterrey. Along with a prize of six thousand pesos in an electronic card, he delivered a donation provided by Fundación Xignux worth 100,000 pesos to Bomberos de Nuevo León to support a nutrition project.
In the Xignux employees’ category, known as Energizers, the winner was Martín Alejandro Camacho Gallegos, a representative of Prolec, who delivered a 100,000-peso donation to Zihuame Mochilla for the same purpose.
At the end of the tournament, a Xignux executive announced an extraordinary donation to the Guerrero Red Cross to aid those affected by Hurricane OTIS.
We thank and acknowledge everyone who participated in this initiative by Xignux and Fundación Xignux, and congratulations to the players and winning organizations.
