  • The plant expansion brings innovation, jobs and economic growth to the region while reducing concerns about the transformer supply chain.
  • The new transformers will enhance power grids with greater efficiency, reliability, and flexibility.

Shreveport, Louisiana, USA – November 20, 2024 – Prolec GE, a leader in energy infrastructure and a joint venture between Xignux, a privately-held company based in Mexico, and GE Vernova, celebrated the completion of a $34 million capacity expansion project at its Caddo Parish facility. This upgrade, which began in early 2023, concluded with the installation and commissioning of a third production line, allowing the 500,000-square-foot (46,450-square-meter) plant to expand its portfolio to include three-phase pad-mounted transformers. These products improve the efficiency, reliability, and flexibility of power grids utilized in wind farms, solar projects and other industrial and renewable energy initiatives. Additionally, the plant’s design optimization increased production capacity by 15% for the existing network transformer and voltage regulator lines.

The inauguration event featured speeches by company executives and federal and local dignitaries, including Bridget Bartol, representative of the U.S. Department of Energy, Secretary Jennifer Granholm’s office, and Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux. Representatives from Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry’s office, U.S. Senators John Neely Kennedy and Bill Cassidy, U.S. Representative Mike Johnson, and employees of the company also attended. Along with representatives from organizations such as Louisiana Economic Development, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), the Transformer Manufacturers Association of America (TMAA) and community leaders. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the company’s growth and commitment to excellence. This expansion has created over 270 new jobs, solidifying Prolec GE’s position as a cornerstone of the local economy.

Ricardo Suárez, CEO of Prolec and master of ceremonies for the event, stated:

“This expansion not only enhances our capacity to meet the growing needs of our customers by adding more than 1,500 units annually to our production capabilities but also reinforces our commitment to supporting a reliable and resilient electric grid in the United States. Our team worked tirelessly to make this project a reality, and we are excited to continue delivering high-quality products, supporting the local economy and creating jobs in the community.”

Prolec GE is a leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of solutions for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. As the largest transformer manufacturer in North America, the company serves diverse industries, including construction, engineering and both conventional and renewable energy sectors. The new production capacity in Shreveport helps ease pressures on the U.S. transformer supply chain while positioning Prolec GE for future growth.

“It is essential that the government, industry, and community work together to drive growth in the manufacturing sector,” said Juan Ignacio Garza Herrera, CEO of Xignux, during his remarks. “Our collaboration with government agencies, the Shreveport community, and our joint venture partner, GE Vernova, was key to making this expansion a reality.”

Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova, emphasized the importance of partnerships and the progress achieved:

“Today is a special day for the Prolec GE team and represents a significant milestone in our commitment to serving customers and advancing the energy transition,” said Strazik. “As energy demand continues to grow, this new production line and the jobs it creates will strengthen our supply chain for critical grid equipment, supporting energy security in the U.S. and beyond.”

The event concluded with guided tours of the plant, showcasing new equipment varieties, state-of-the-art testing laboratories, a new training area, and improvements to process flow. Production employees provided firsthand insights at selected workstations, enriching the experience for distinguished guests.
