- Zwan and KIR are declared as “Famous Trademark”, while Conchitas, Caperucita and Peperami were designated “Notorious Trademark”.
- These declarations imply an increase in the value of the brand, a competitive advantage and a higher level of protection to its registrations.
- There are approximately 81 famous trademarks and 31 notorious trademarks recognized by IMPI, among the millions of existing trademarks in Mexico.
Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. June 21, 2023. The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) declared Zwan and KIR famous trademarks, and Peperami, Caperucita and Conchitas notorious trademarks.
Zwan, KIR, Peperami and Caperucita are trademarks of Qualtia, and Conchitas of BYDSA; and both companies are part of Xignux, a leader in the energy and food industries.
The declaration of “Famous Trademark” or “Notorious Trademark” is a product of consumer recognition, and grants special protection in the market. According to the Industrial Property Law, a “Famous Trademark” is known by the majority of the consuming public and has a diffusion or recognition in global commerce. Receiving this award is also proof of the quality of the product and its permanence in the market. On the other hand, a “Notorious Trademark” is known when a certain sector of the public or the country’s commercial circles knows the trademark because of its promotion or advertising.
The transcendence, continuous use and consumer taste were the elements that contributed to the IMPI’s recognition as prestigious trademarks. These recognitions distinguish the trajectory and quality of the products, in addition to favoring the positioning of Xignux in the food industry.
According to IMPI data, there are 1,453,914 registered trademarks in Mexico, of which approximately 81 have been declared “Famous Trademarks”, and only 31 are recognized as “Notorious Trademarks”. For Xignux, having five brands with these distinctions represents a great achievement.

“We owe this recognition of our brands to the Mexican families who prefer our food, prepared with great passion by thousands of people who make up Qualtia. We are proud that they allow us to be in their homes and their moments of celebration. We will continue working and innovating to please the most demanding palates in our country”, said Héctor Silva, General Manager of Qualtia, a Xignux company.
Jesús González, BYDSA’s director, said: “We are delighted that our traditional Conchitas have received this distinction, as it shows the affection that consumers have for our brand, as we do. Many thanks to the entire BYDSA team and our customers, of all generations”.
Xignux is a leading company in the energy and food industry, which, through its culture, innovation, and commitment to customers, has maintained its leadership in the market for more than 65 years.
