Prolec GE transformers will be part of a project by our strategic partner GE Vernova to build two synchronous condenser sites at substations in New York State, located in Coffeen and Taylorville.
Synchronous condensers are machines whose technology provides reactive power compensation. They help ensure efficiency and voltage levels by strengthening the power grid and ensuring an efficient flow of electricity. The project contemplates three of these machines and three 50 MVA, 115kV GSU transformers manufactured at the Apodaca power plant for each site.
With these installations, we expect to prevent power outages, increase short-circuit resistance and provide consistent, reliable power to homes and businesses in New York State, which helps reduce carbon emissions.
These projects are critical to complying with New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 85% by 2050.
At Prolec, we are excited to collaborate with our strategic partner in the application of technology that supports and stabilizes modern generation sources, such as solar and wind, which require better voltage control and stability. At the same time, we support decarbonization goals.
We are committed to the transition to a low-carbon future through a more stable and reliable power grid.
We thank all our Energizers for their dedication and continuous effort, which makes our contribution to a more sustainable world possible.
